LIBRARY

“The only important thing in a book is the meaning that it has for you”. – W. Somerset Maugham

Good morning fellow Betmar residents.

The remodel of the library is well underway. The demolition has been done on the inside and the build back will be starting soon. As we get more information we will pass it along to you. We would like to thank Bob Coutz and his crew from properties for their help in removing the check out desk. The changeover for properties from Bob to Mac McKinnnon has gone well for us. Bob and Dave Gregg are spearheading the library project, but Mac is also involved as well. Betmar is very fortunate to have him, and we look forward to working with all three of them in the coming days. More next week, Toni Nelson

PROPERTIES

Hope this finds everyone doing well.

Properties happenings:

  1. Front Entrance Betmar Drive – Thank you to (Volunteer) Dick Balzer for getting this project going by weeding our front entrance.  Since thren we have sprayed for weeds cut more weeds down and although it was suggested to replace the mulch at the front entrance, we identified that is bark pieces for mulch and they were in pretty good shape.  But like me just looking a little worn and tattered, so to save money we found a stain for the bark versus replacement and with Joe and his crew we were able to get a first coat of stain on the bark, second one coming shortly.  So, our entrance sign should be looking good at a low cost, win, win.  In another week the front will look rather good, I might say.
  2. Apache Red Room – a motor controller went out, so we were able to get that fixed fast with Frank’s.  Love their response times for us at Betmar and their professional technicians, in/out and still explained the details. Tip of the hat. Thank you (Volunteer), Steve Ward, for meeting with them as I was delayed elsewhere.
  3. Horseshoe Benches – A kind soul (Volunteer) donated some benches for the NEW horseshoe area, Joe and his crew have been putting them together and adding a little bracing/support to the middle as we expect them to have high usage.
  4. Library – Please see the library section of coffee news to get the details.
  5. 9 White – still closed and I am seeing quite a bit of growth, it just needs to spread out further.  Keep it up Jay!!!
  6. The greens on Gold have been aerated and has impacted my putting, I was known as 3 putt Mac and now the guys are tempted to call me 3 and a prayer Mac.  Ahh well it’s what is best for the greens longevity.
  7. Blue 7 Culvert still closed as the sod takes hold.  Staying with wild 7’s, thank you to (Volunteer) Dave Gregg for your work on Gold 7 and lifting the canopy on the trees there.

We are making progress on all the requests that have come in, THANK you to those that use the form link to submit. It helps me track all the happenings here that need attention.  If you get a chance, please tell a worker thanks for what you do, as their work helps make Betmar an even better place than it already is!!!!

Thank You and have a great Betmar Day here or there. Mac McKinnon 813.838.0399 Cell

JOKE OF THE DAY

A couple lived near the ocean and used to walk the beach a lot. One summer they noticed a girl who was at the beach pretty much every day. She wasn’t unusual, nor was the travel bag she carried, except for one thing, she would approach people who were sitting on the beach, glance around, then speak to them. Generally, the people would respond negatively and she would wander off, but occasionally someone would nod and there would be a quick exchange of money for something she carried in her bag. The couple assumed she was selling drugs and debated calling the cops, but since they didn’t know for sure they just continued to watch her.

After couple of weeks the wife asked her honey, “have you noticed that she only goes up to people with boomboxes and other electric devices?”

 He hadn’t and said so.

And she said, “tomorrow I want you to get a towel and our big radio and go lie on the beach. Then we can find out what she’s really doing. “

Well, the plan went off without a hitch, and the wife was almost hopping up and down with anticipation when she saw the girl talk to her husband and then leave.

The Husband walked up from the beach and met his wife on the road.

“Well, is she selling drugs?” she asked excitedly

“No, she’s not.”

“Well, what is it then?” His wife shrieked.

The man grinned and said her name is Sally and she’s selling batteries.

“Batteries?” The wife cried.

“yes” he replied, “she sells C cells by the seashore.”
